Haplogroup D is
a descendant of
Haplogroup M. This Haplogroup
originated in East Asia between 60,000 and 80,000 years.
This is one of 5 Haplogroups found
indigenous to the Americas which also includes Haplogroup
A,
B,
C and
X.
Haplogroup D
is frequent in Northeast Asia including Siberia. It is frequent in Central Asia
as well. This Haplogroup is the 2nd most common of all the mtDNA clade; next to
Haplogroup H.
With this Haplogroup their were two
splits; one group migrated and stayed in East Asia while the other spread all
over the world.
It has a low frequency in Northeastern
Europe and Southwestern Asia.
