L Haplogroup

 

L Haplogroup is believed to have arisen roughly 25,000-30,000 years ago in South Asia. This haplogroup is found mostly in India and Pakistan.

 

Haplogroup L has three sub-branches L1, L2 and L3. All three are common in Iran and Pakistan but only L1 is found commonly in India.

Most European that are in Haplogroup L are in the sub-branch L2.

India Haplogroup L is 7%-15% of India population. In Iran it is 3.4%, Turkey 4.2% and Iraq 3.1%.

  • L1 (M27, M76) Typical of Dravidian castes of India and Sri Lanka, with a moderate distribution among Indo-Iranian populations of South Asia

  • L3 (M357) Found frequently among Burusho and Pashtuns, with a moderate distribution among the general Pakistani population
