What is DNA made of? It isn't some multi-complicated magic like many
people assume. DNA is actually quite small and simple. DNA is made of phosphate
and sugar molecules alternating in a linked chain. This is called "polymer"
which is the DNA backbone.
The rungs (ladder steps) of DNA come off sugar molecules called bases. There
are four bases called adenine (A),
guanine (G),
cytosine (C),
and
thymine (T). Each rung is made of two-linked bases. Only (A) and (T) can
link together and only (G) and (C) can link together.
Adenine and Guanine
are purines. Purines are double ringed structures. Cytosine and Thymine
are single ringed structures and are known as pyramidines.
The basic chemicals found in DNA are carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen and
phosphorous.
DNA is in every cell in your body. Technically, you could clone a animal with a
strand of hair, and a human by his sweat.
A human can get their DNA analyzed to find out about their past. This technology
is only about 12 years old, be a pioneer in this technology. Get your DNA test
